How to Return a GAP Item
Returning to a GAP Store
- Bring your item and a proof of purchase (receipt, order confirmation, or credit card used for purchase) to a nearest Gap Store.
- No need for packaging or labels.
- Refunds go back to the original payment method.
Returning Online Purchases by Mail
- Visit GAP’s return portal to start the return.
- Fill in the Order Number and Zip Code as shown in the below screenshot.

- Follow the instructions to create a prepaid shipping label.
- Pack your item securely and include the packing slip.
- Drop it off at a UPS location.
- If you don’t use the prepaid label, you pay for the return shipping.

Returning at a Drop-Off Location (Staples Express Returns™)
- Only for online purchases.
- No need for a box or label.
- Select Express Returns in the return portal to get a QR code.
- Drop off the item at a participating Staples store.
Home Pickup (For a Fee)
- Schedule a pickup through the return portal.
- No need for packaging or labels—just hand the item to the pickup driver.

Refunds & Exchanges
- Refunds go to the original payment method.
- Credit card refunds may take up to 10 business days.
- If you choose Instant Merchandise Credit, you get an eMerchandise Return Card instantly (but you must return the item within 7 days).
- Exchanges are processed as a return and repurchase.

What’s Not Refunded?
- Original shipping fees.
- Return shipping costs (if you don’t use Gap’s prepaid label).
Items That Can’t Be Returned
- Final Sale Items: Marked “Final Sale” online or on receipts. No returns or exchanges.
- Masks (for hygiene reasons) are final sale.
- Items marked as “mail only” on the product page, your shopping bag, and the invoice can be returned only by mail.
- Certain Swimwear & Sunglasses (must have original tags and liners; check return eligibility).
- Maternity: Mail returns only.
- Third-Party Seller Items (must be returned directly to the seller, not GAP)
Gift Returns
- Gift returns with a gift receipt will receive a GAP gift card.
- If no receipt, you get a merchandise certificate for the item’s current selling price.
