  • Refund Method: You’ll get a full refund to your original method of payment. If that’s not available, you’ll get store credit.

Used Gear

  • Timeframe: You can return used, undamaged gear within 30 days of delivery.
  • Condition: The gear must not be dirty or damaged from ordinary wear and tear, improper use, or accidents.

In-Store Purchases

  • Return Location: Items purchased at a store must be returned to the store. You can return it to any Backcountry store, not just the one where you bought it.

Returning Items by Mail

Steps to Follow

  1. Start a return: Start a return for guest login by visiting the returns portal or visit the order history by logging into your account. Fill the required fields as shown in the screenshot below

  1. Get an RMA Number: By following the above process you will get an Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. You can also contact a Gearhead via online chat or phone at 1-800-409-4502 .
  2. Repackage Your Gear: Include the RMA number and order number in the return package.
  3. Send Your Return: Use a carrier of your choice or a FedEx drop-off location if you’re using a flat rate label.

Important Notes

  • Packaging: Carefully package your returns. You’re responsible for repair costs if items are damaged during shipping due to improper packaging.
  • In-Store Purchases: Products bought at a store cannot be returned by mail.
  • Hazardous Materials: Certain products containing hazardous materials, like powered coolers and portable generators, cannot be returned by mail. These need to be returned to a store or shipped with special handling requirements.

Flat Rate Shipping Label

  • Cost: Backcountry offers a $6.99 flat rate FedEx shipping label for eligible customers within the contiguous U.S.
  • Obtaining the Label: You can print the label from your account or request that a Gearhead email it to you.
  • Deduction: The $6.99 cost will be deducted from your refund or store credit.

Using Your Own Carrier

  • Procedure:
    • Select “Order History” in your account, find the product you wish to return, and select “Return this Product” to get an RMA number.
    • Include the order number and RMA number inside the package.
    • Write the RMA number on the outside of the shipping container.

Exchanges

  • Fastest Method: Return your original purchase and place a new order immediately. This ensures you get the new product quickly and that it doesn’t go out of stock.
  • Alternative Method: Call or chat with a Gearhead to make an exchange without setting up a new order.

Store Credits

  • Expiration: Store credits for returned products expire one year from the date of issuance. Other store credits expire 90 days from issuance.
  • Expedition Perks: If you used Expedition Perks rewards on an order you returned, those rewards won’t be refunded. You’ll be credited back the value of the order, excluding the rewards applied.
